GHOST DARLING = THE COMICS OF E.DARLING August 15, 2008 Good gravy I have not updated this in a month! I have been truly lazy I apologize. I was also too lazy to post a comic that I did a while ago. I'm departing for Denmark and Greece today, so I definitely won't be updating in these next two weeks, although when I come back I'm sure I'll have lots of material to post. You know, unless my plane crashes. Hopefully not.July 15, 2008 Hey dudes so I forgot to post about this, but I did the album artwork for a split CD by Old Shoes and Father, Son & Holy Smokes called Be Somebody, or Be Somebody's Fool! Check outhttp://www.myspace.com/oldshoes http://www.myspace.com/holysmokesfather for music.E.July 7, 2008 So kids, Andrew Owen Johnston has kindly accepted my comic submission, and I'm going to be in Zine Arcade Issue 2! So you should go buy up that when it comes out, because there are some amazing artists that contributed to that, it seems definitely worth a gander. Anyhow, new Better Unknown up.Gleefully yours, E. June 30, 2008 I realized that the site that I hosted the "Art" images on was down for a really long time without me noticing. Therefore, I have rehosted those images, and they are back up for your enjoyment!June 28, 2008 New comic. That's all.E. June 19, 2008 Three New Better Unknowns. I think I've settled into a good medium, lets see if it helps with productivity.Eeeeeeeeeeee June, 7, 2008 New comic yep! I've been really lazy lately, I apologize.E to the E to the E to the E to the E May 9, 2008 So there's a new Better Unknown. I had a better update entry here, but Firefox decided to close, and I'm pissed from other factors, so I have little patience at the moment. You might notice something different about the Better Unknown, other than the nine-month gap between this one and the last one, but it's because I drew it on the computer, to save scanning/editing time. So yeah.April 26, 2008 New sketch in the Sketch comics section...My Firefox is riddled with adware at the moment, so it's kind of been hard to update lately. I'll figure it out.April 20, 2008 New comic in the series hyuk hyuk hyuk.April 11, 2008 New series up, it's pretty much the most obnoxious, stupid thing I've ever drawn. But I got tired of being sentimental, and I felt like drawing something that was just so idiotic.E. March 6, 2008 Well it's been a while eh. I've been working on the mini-comic (I actually have been, and not just eating crackers like I usually do), but I did have the time to share a crap sketch that should be up in the appropriate "Sketchbook Comics" section. It features McKenna, one of my most favorite ladies ever.Eeee. January 29, 2008 New thing called Well, What Would You Do? I will probably have to redo this for the book, since it's like smudge city on the rest of the paper. Smudgetastic. Smudge-a-licious. Smudgerific. Okay I'll stop.Woo E. January 17, 2008 New rough draft of a comic that will definitely be in the mini-comic. It was actually drawn today, the seventeenth, despite me forgetting the date, and labeling it as finished yesterday.E. January 5, 2008 New sketch, blah blah, I'm super sorry that it's annoyingly huge. I've lost my Photoshop installation CD, so I had to save the file in MS Paint, making it so I couldn't shrink it. Also, if you don't listen to Public Enemy, you won't get the reference. No that is not actually Charlie Brown dammit. December 18, 2007 Three new sketches! One is actually a week or so old, but that's a-ok. I'm sorry that the writing is hard to read in the last one on the page. I did it in silver colored pencil, and my scanner didn't take kindly to that. OH DAG I forgot to buy Rivers Cuomo's "Alone" album today. I have failed appallingly in my duties as a Weezer freak. Young Eezy. December 16, 2007 New sketch. I was pretty angry when I did this. It was a very surface attraction however. Enjoy! E. December 14, 2007 Finished a painting, it's up at the Shop page. The pictures are of terrible quality. E. December 4, 2007 Another sketch up. E. December 2, 2007 Since I have a new sketchbook, I'm probably going to keep posting sketch comics that I have done in there. Petting kitties, E. November 28, 2007 A little sketch was put up, where I try my best (and fail) at an Adrian Tomine impression. Because my life really does feel like it's coming straight out from a back issue of Optic Nerve. They're such good comics, but it's a little nervewracking to feel like you're living it out. BLAHBLAHBLAH E. November 20, 2007 New comic up called G-G-Get Up. I...perhaps..stole the title from the Sleater-Kinney song (without the stuttering). Well heck, it's a good song, with an excellent music video directed by Miranda July. Anyway, the mini-comic is seriously, (SERIOUSLY) almost done. I have the rough draft assembled, yet I have these burning doubts and I might actually restructure the entire thing, because at the moment it's just a jumbling of short comics, and basically has no structure. So that'll probably take quite a while to figure out and accomplish. The new comic is simply a really rushed rough for the mini-comic. Also, I don't really know why on the Comics page the fonts are all screwed up and in different sizes. In other news, I have had extremely weird sleep patterns these days (no sleep at night, napping during the day), so I pretty much do not have any sort of handle on what day it is. Well, that's not entirely true, seeing as I was able to enter in the correct date for this entry, but I'm just sort of lost in time. Raaaaaamblin' E. November 10, 2007 New comic up called Heart Break/My Hands Shake. Because I am so very good at coming up with titles. Sheesh. Anyway, I grappled with the decision to post it, since it was very revealing (perhaps too much) and I felt a little guilty about the portrayals in the comic. It was written at a very emotional time, when all my bitterness spilled out on paper, and some parts are quite morbid. Then I decided, to hell with it, because it is in the mini-comic anyway, and there hasn't been any updates around here lately. Enough catharsis, E. November 7, 2007 yep. E. October 30, 2007 So Happy Halloween tomorrow. New comic up called What am I Thinking. It will be in the mini-comic. I have a crazy headache and a bit of a fever, so I'm not really in the mood for anything. Also, if there are smudges in the comic, I apologize profusely. I didn't feel like editing in Photoshop/staring at the monitor for too long. Nearing the witching hour, E. October 27, 2007 Sort of update with the title page of No One Will Ever Love You. Yes it is quite depressing already, but I'm not usually a pessimist. What's up at the moment is simply a title page, the bulk of the comic has not been finished, though I will put that up sometime this week, or next. Anyway, West Add Radio has come out with their magazine, which has Sweetheart and an old Wonderlust on page 17. I feel quite honored, yet at the same time a little irked since they listed the address at ghostdarling.net, instead of ghostdarling.COM. Anyhow, it's up there, and I hope they change that typo. Uncomfortably caffeinated, E. October 24, 2007 So Carmichael over thurr at Vegan Hedonism mentioned me in this post which was the highlight of my day. Because vegan food blogs are what I look at for fun. Also, new comic up called Awkward Moments with Elaine, which is great fun. It's another part of the mini-comic, and I'm still working on that. UPDATE: I just noticed that I didn't color my hair black in part of the comic. And I'm really not inclined to fix it at the moment. So there. Angry as hell, but a bit better, E. October 21, 2007 Gah! I feel so effing lazy, just sitting here at 7:30 AM, with a really disgustingly strong cup of Finnish coffee, listening to Datarock and Prince. I've been ridiculously busy, and as a result, my creativity has taken a dive. Anyway, there has been some sort of really really old news. I'm still unsure of whether this is spam or not, but some dewd from West Add Radio sent me a Myspace message (the wave of the future!) in September (best b-day present ever!) and asked to use some of my caw-mix in their upcoming magazine. At first I was like F U MAN I AIN'T BUYIN NO DAG MAGAZEEN, but as I kept reading, I was like NO I TAKE IT BACK. So if it's not spam, excellence. If it is, well, they got some angry comics coming their way. Anyhow, I don't live in San Fran, and have no idea if this shiz is legiz, so if any of you very few people that read this live in that there city, then I guess you could support me (in spirit only) by gandering a glance at the WAR mag-zine. If it follows through, it will be my first time being published (especially by strangers eek!), so huzzah! That was some freakishly old news, but there are no updates at the moment, and I just wanted to share with you kiddies. Tell yr friends. UPDATE New comic up called Why Elaine Should Stop Drinking Coffee. It should be in the mini-comic I'm planning to release soon. I keep noticing stuff that's wrong with it, but rest assured, they will be fixed by the time the book is out. This coffee is gnarly, E. October 7, 2007You know what's really hard? Choosing a pseudonym. Today, since I had no one to talk to, I looked up "E. Darling" on Google to see if the name I chose was wise or not. And there's about a billion other E. Darling's out there. And I really don't want to have to think of another pseduonym. Anyhow, if I were to go with my real name, the ratio would be even higher. So I guess I'll stick with this for now, and if E. Darling Enterprises tries to sue me, I hope he realizes that I would never use a name of a car racing enterprise to further my lukewarm career. I guess the solution is to keep going like that, or to expand the name to Elaine Darling, though that seems like much. Pretty Pissed E. October 3, 2007New comic called Hand Clap up. It was done on graph paper, but you can't see that due to the scanner. Feelin' a bit sick E. September 28, 2007Well new comic up called The Sound of Love and its the first comic drawn for the new mini-comic I just thought up today. When the book is finished, Ill maybe sell it, and it will be called Hello to Everyone Ever. So chek out the comic, I forgot to add more censorship to the first panel, so enjoy some cartoon E very partial nudity. I guess Happy Birthday to my friends Hailey, Tasha, and Jaqui. Thats pretty much it. Dominating the streets E. September 18, 2007New comic up called Call of the Idiot yeah I know its a pretty lame name. I couldnt think of anything better at the time. Ive also found an affinity for carob-covered peanuts, which taste a lot better than they sound. Rollin wit it E. September 12, 2007So there's one new comic up now, I'm almost done with one more. The comic is called It's All So Wrong so go have a look. For some reason, the thumbnail link for Silent Rebellion is deciding not to show itself, but the link is still properly working. So don't be afraid to hit that faulty button. If you are truly interested in the more mundane aspects of my life, I have just ordered an iPod. Not one of those ridiculous iPhone-esque ones, just a used 60 gig, because that seems like more than enough. I'm looking forward to listening to "Billie Jean" even more frequently than I do now. That song is like crack... for my ears. Anyhow, my Dear Nora shirt came, and it's pretty freaking beautiful. Also, I'm keeping the envelope it came in. Because that's just how obsessed I am with them. With bright hope for the future, E. August 31, 2007 Ah, so nothing really new, I'm still working on Red Echo which won't be finished for a while, since I am now working on mini comic about the tragic death of James Kim, called Death by Northwest, it's pretty emo already, and all I've worked on is the concept and sketched out in my mind. Dude that case was hella tragic kiddies, I hope I just don't offend James Kim with my poorly drawn forests. Anyhow, since my friend Hailey has dropped out of contributing, so at this moment, Red Echo is basically a print archive of the comics on this site, along with new comics. I'm sorry for the lack of updates. I've been too occupied with the scramble to reinvent Red Echo with Hailey dropping out at last minute, Death by Northwest and drawing stuff for my friend Dylan's music blog (blearyeyedfervor.blogspot.com). TIRED AS HELL E. August 6, 2007 I switched Better Unknown back to the usual format, and also added two new ones. Apparently there is a Harry Potter theme goin' on, probably due to to the fact that I have been revisiting the entire series instead of updating this barren son of a gun. I also added a comic called "A Love Letter" on the Comics page, and of course it is embarassing and revealing, but what else would you expect from me? I was going to add a really old Wonderlust (like from May?) which I found while searching my room for Harry Potter and the Sorcerors Stone. I didn't add it because I had erased part of it (the comic not Harry Potter) and forgot to re-ink it. So that'll probably be up this week. I've decided to make this a regular blog, so this is where I talk about my day/week. I watched alot of bizarre movies. Blades of Glory, Old School, License to Marry and Napoleon Dynamite were watched. The movie marathon took a Will Ferrel/Jon Heder path, and I'm sorry to say I didn't enjoy License to Marry at all. What the f was that? I'll save the criticisms because I am planning to start my own movie review site, due to the fact that I worship at the feet of the Filthy Critic (www. filthycritic.com/filthy). Anyhow, if anyone wants to have a fervent discussion of Harry Potter, AIM me at elainethefatty, or MSN at rainbowdanceparty@hotmail.comGiggles and sparkles, E. August 6, 2007 So after the host I use being down for about a week, I switched over and now Better Unknown is being hosted on Webcomics Nation, for stability even if I don't like the order it places strips in. Updates really soon I promise.Later, E. July 17, 2007 Uploaded Better Unknown #15, and new comic Sweet Heart, finally making headway with this "site" thing, after a long productive day of online shopping for pleather Doc Martens (which are disgustingly expensive), and recording some badly improvised beats. With playful spanks on your bum, E.
July 3, 2007 So, here we are again. Anyone who saw the old Heart Attack Comics sites, just forget that. Ok? More stuff will be up later, don't you fret.Platonic hugs and kisses, E. .
